Sheriff John P. Hunt

Sheriff John P. Hunt has dedicated more than three decades to law enforcement and public service.

His career began as a dispatcher with the Floyd County Sheriff's Office while still in high school.  He later served with the Prestonsburg Police Department before joining the Kentucky State Police in 1991.  During more than 24 years with KSP, he served in patrol, criminal investigations and narcotics enforcement, retiring as Sargeant.

Sheriff Hunt was named 2022 Kentucky Sheriff of the Year and continues to serve in leadership roles across Kentucky and nationally:

Throughout his tenure as Sheriff, John P. Hunt has worked tirelessly to strengthen the relationship between the Floyd County Sheriff's Office and the communities it serves, implementing programs focused on crime prevention, community outreach, and officer training.

Sheriff Hunt continues to lead the Floyd County Sheriff's Office with a commitment to public safety, professionalism and service to the citizens of Floyd County.
